Complaints & Commendations
The Hampton Township Police Department is committed to providing exceptional service to our citizens and guests through a problem-solving approach, emphasizing a dedication to excellence through teamwork. Police employees are carefully selected, held to the highest standards and provided with the best training and equipment available. Our department stresses integrity, professionalism, and courtesy in our officers. The Police Department is sincerely interested in both rewarding above average performance and in taking corrective action in those instances where an employee fails to meet our standards.

Commendation Procedure
To Commend or Compliment the performance of a Hampton Township Police Department employee, notify the Police Department by calling at 412-486-0400, writing or visiting at:

Letters of Commendation from citizens are posted for all department employees to view. The Police Department and its employees appreciate the effort and consideration of concerned citizens who take the time to commend employee performance.

Complaint Procedure
A person wishing to file a formal complaint should contact a supervisor at the Hampton Police Department. The supervisor will give you a Hampton Township Police Department Citizen Complaint Form, or one can be mailed to you. The complainant will be required to return the complaint in person and sign the form in the presence of a department supervisor. You will be notified by the investigating officer as to the progress of your complaint, and you may be required to supply additional information. Once the complaint has been investigated, you will be notified by mail that the investigation has been completed and advised as to the disposition of your complaint.

During the course of the investigation, you (as the complainant) may be requested to submit to a polygraph examination.

If a Complaint is Sustained
When the investigation of a formal complaint reveals that the charges are true and should be sustained against the police employee, the Department may take any of the following actions, depending on the nature of the violation:
  • Training provided or assigned by the correcting supervisor
  • Verbal counseling
  • Letter of reprimand
  • Suspension
  • Demotion
  • Dismissal
If a Complaint is Not Sustained
If there is not sufficient evidence to support the allegations, the investigation is closed and no further action is taken.

False Complaints
Any false, misleading or untrue statements, accusations or allegations made in relation to any employee of the Police Department may lead to civil and/or criminal sanctions.

The Hampton Township Police Department is vitally interested in the welfare of all citizens and in taking action where its employees have proven derelict in their duties or are guilty of wrongdoing. If it becomes necessary for you to make a complaint, you can be assured that it will be given a fair and thorough investigation.

By the same token, if you have occasion to see a Police Department employee doing outstanding work, we encourage you to tell them or us about it. The Hampton Township Police Department is comprised of professionals dedicated to serving the citizens of our community and to making Hampton Township a safe and peaceful community.
