On April 12, 2017 at 3:20 p.m., Hampton Township Police received a fraud report from a resident on Red Oak Court. The reporting party stated that an individual claiming to be their grandson's attorney called their home phone using a blocked number. The resident stated that the "attorney" advised them that their grandson had been arrested and that he needed a large sum of money, in the form of Apple gift cards, to get released from jail. The resident did as requested, and after speaking to their grandson a short time later, discovered that the grandson had never been arrested and that they had been scammed. The residents were advised to speak to their bank, and to file a fraud affidavit on the Federal Trade Commission website and on stopfraud.gov.
