On June 20, 2018 at 1:28 a.m., Hampton Township Police were dispatched to Sheetz for an intoxicated male who was reported to have struck a red pole in the parking lot with his vehicle. A responding officer intercepted the vehicle in question on Route 8 and initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle was turning into a parking lot, the officer observed the driver to nearly strike a light pole. Upon making contact with the operator, the officer could immediately detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The operator was observed to have glassy eyes and his speech was slurred. The officer also observed red paint transfer on the front of the vehicle that appeared to be consistent with the red pole in the parking lot that had been struck. The operator was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which he was unable to complete as had been explained and demonstrated. The operator was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
