On July 6, 2018 at 2:35 p.m., a Hampton Township officer was patrolling the area of Route 8 and East Hardies Road when they observed what appeared to be a vehicle accident involving a utility pole. Upon further investigation, the vehicle owner and witnesses reported that the vehicle in question had been parked at a gas pump, and when the operator walked inside to pay for gasoline, the vehicle rolled, unoccupied, across the parking lot. The vehicle continued over a curb, through grass, onto Route 8, traveled in a semi-circle, and came to a stop when the rear of the vehicle struck a utility pole. The vehicle sustained minor damage. The operator stated that she thought the car had been in park at the time of the incident.
