On July 7, 2018 at 11:43 a.m., a Hampton Township officer initiated a traffic stop on Route 8 after the officer observed the vehicle swerve out of it's lane of travel on multiple occasions, nearly struck a guide rail, and was observed to be speeding above the posted speed limit. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. After verifying that the operator was familiar with the english alphabet, the driver was asked to state the alphabet, in it's entirety, which they were unable to complete. The operator was then asked to submit to other field sobriety tests, which were explained and demonstrated prior to the driver's attempts. The operator was unable to complete the tests as had been explained and demonstrated and was placed under arrest for DUI.
