On August 26, 2018 at 2:25 a.m., a Hampton Township officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Burchfield Road after observing traffic violations on Route 8. The officer observed the vehicle cross over the center lane line multiple times. The vehicle was then observed to be traveling 20 mph in a 40 mph zone, and almost struck a center median. Upon making contact with the operator, the officer requested a driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. At this time, the operator tried to hand the officer his wallet. The operator was observed to have glassy, bloodshot eyes, and the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The operator was asked to submit to field sobriety tests, and was unable to complete them as had been explained and demonstrated. The operator was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
