[ARCHIVED] Implementable Comprehensive Plan Update - A letter from Council Vice-President Dr. Carolynn Johnson

Dear Hampton Residents,

As you may have heard, the Township is starting a new Comprehensive Plan. The Plan is a guidance document that will outline the path the Township wants to take over the next 10 years. It provides direction for development and land use, capital improvements, and community utilities and services. It also provides planning for local streets, pedestrian walkways and bikeways, and public transportation, along with many other aspects of community life.

But many Comprehensive Plans fall short of these goals. Rather than being a living document guiding these things, they end up gathering dust on a shelf. So, we’ve chosen to take a different approach. We are developing an Implementable Comprehensive Plan with the firm that pioneered this approach, Pashek+MTR.

Similar to user-centered methods from product development, this approach is citizen-centered. You—our residents—are the key to our success. Our aim is to create actionable goals, that are driven by your vision for Hampton, complete with the resources needed to achieve each and possible funding sources, like federal or state grants.

The Steering Committee is made up of Hampton citizens, business-owners, and other key stakeholders. We’ve already been engaging with our citizens for several months. We’ve interviewed residents at Community Day, held a Coffee Conversation with the Township Manager, distributed a Quality of Life Survey, and hosted an Open House to hear about your concerns and dreams for our Township.

But we want to hear more. Soon the Steering Committee will be hosting pop-up booths at our local stores. When you see us, please stop by, and tell us about the direction that you want Hampton to take.

Thank you,

Carolynn R. Johnson
Council Vice President
