[ARCHIVED] Fraud

On December 5, 2014 at 4:28 PM the Hampton Township Police were dispatched regarding a fraudulent scam. The officer spoke to the caller who advised that earlier today he received a phone call from an unidentified man, with thick Indian accent, claiming that he owed the IRS $4,750.00 and that if he did not contact Chris Walker from the Inspector General's Office (760-897-3175) immediately to resolve the issue, local police would be on the way with a warrant to arrest him. Chris was contacted at the number provided and the male on the other end sounded exactly like the male who he had first spoken with. The caller advised that at this point he realized the call was a scam and attempted to gather further information on the caller, to which he was only able to gather the origin of the call, El Camino California. Residents can also contact the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), the IRS and stopfraud.gov. As a reminder, please do not give out any personal information over the phone.
