On May 16, 2020 at 11:11 p.m., Hampton Township Police responded to Wildwood Sample Road for a single vehicle accident involving a guide rail. Upon their arrival, officers located a vehicle sideways across both lanes of travel with heavy front end damage. Upon making contact with the driver, the officers observed visible signs of impairment. The operator stated that the accident occurred when they tried to avoid striking an opossum in the roadway. The operator was asked to submit to field sobriety tests, which they were unable to complete as had been instructed and demonstrated. The operator was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
