Joe Dougherty was born and raised in Hampton and a member of the HHS Class of 1996. He earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University and his MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He graduated medical school from West Virginia University and subsequently completed family medicine residency at UPMC-St. Margaret and Sports Medicine fellowship at AGH. Joe is currently an Associate Program Director of the Forbes Family Medicine Residency in Monroeville. He was previously a PIttsburgh Pirates team physician and Hampton Talbot team physician from 2012-2018.
He is married to Lela, also a family medicine physician and cofounder of her own independent medical practice, Family Matters Direct Primary Care, here in Hampton. They have two young boys, Matthew and Benjamin. When he's not coaching his own boys, he is the pitching coach at Freeport Area High School.
Joe is honored to have been elected to serve his beloved hometown.
